Not only do they produce a much higher quality sound then typical small Computer speakers, but they can also be configured for 3D sound to greatly improve your directional response in more action oriented Games.

There are many variants of free standing speakers: in addition to any choice of colour, design and style there also are floor standing speakers as well as wall hanging models, to insure any free space in your tv or computer room is properly and efficiently utilized.

When buying speakers, I have found the best prices in online stores. Considering how easy it is to go from site to site, I would highly recommend you shop around and compare quality, models in stock and most importantly prices from online store to store, to make sure you are getting the best deal on your speakers. For even better prices I would suggest you look into private auctions of second hand and sometimes even new speakers, but be sure to inspect your purchase well.

±1±: Best Buy Overall, I'm very pleased with the receiver ... it's got a lot of nice features (which others have described nicely so I will not repeat), and if you've ever set up any other HT receiver you will not have any troubles with this one. I bought it to replace a sound bar that just didn't do a good enough job of separating dialog from background music and sounds, and I'm running 5.1 in a 14x19 bedroom. I can now clearly hear the dialog, and having real surround sound is great.

However, I dinged it one star for what I would consider misleading specifications. Perhaps for those who are experts at HT this wouldn't be a problem, but when I read about all of the different inputs and outputs I assumed that I could mix and match ... for example, I wanted to up my old 5-disc DVD player via component and send the video to my TV via HDMI ... but no such luck with this model. IMHO, if, as seems to be the case, I must send component inputs to my TV via a component output, HDMI inputs vis HDMI, etc., then I would expect the specs to reflect that be stating as much, or at least indicate it by grouping them together. The last receiver I bought (an Onkyo, for the living room) a couple years ago has no such limitations, so it never occurred to me that this would be an issue.

But, to be fair, even if I had known the difference I doubt that I would have paid the premium to step up to the model with that capability, but at least I would have been prepared with the correct cables and expectations (I spent a couple of days "troubleshooting" the receiver before I realized that it couldn't do what I wanted because the instructions and even the online help was not clear on the topic). on Sale!
